Galaxy Communications' network of sports radio stations in the Utica-Rome market have added Bob Costas to their weekend lineup. They're among the latest affiliates of "Costas on the Radio," syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks.
Radio & Records says WTLB/Utica (1310), WRNY/Rome (1350) and WIXT/Little Falls (1230), collectively known as "The Game," join 9 other stations across the country that have recently signed up for the show.
Premiere Radio Networks feeds the "Costas on the Radio" via satellite four times each weekend, but allows affiliates to air the 2-hour show anytime they choose, between 6am and midnight on Saturday or Sunday.
"The Game" Program Director / Galaxy Utica Ops Manager Paul Szmal tells CNYRadio.com that they're airing Costas on Saturdays from 6-8am. They're also airing daily commentaries from Costas, which air at 7:02am and 1:02 pm. (Sorry we didn't get this updated sooner -- Paul responded to our inquiry pretty quickly, but we didn't get a chance to check e-mail until late Monday night.)
That's shocking news. I believe it was this last February when Galaxy took Bob & Tom off WOUR, citing that they didn't want to pay the fees for a radio show.
Then again, I guess this is different. They don't have someone in Syracuse doing the same thing.
