SYRACUSE -- The latest to shine in the spotlight of the Syracuse New Times' ongoing series of interviews with local radio personalities is WAER music director Eric Cohen.
The free weekly newspaper was released yesterday, and it's available online as well. In the interview, Cohen discusses his thoughts on how to keep radio relevant in a world where MP3 players and other technologies threaten the medium. He also discusses how the temptation to move into a bigger market always seems to be trumped by the "comfort zone" he has at WAER.
The article coincides with Jazz Appreciation Month; the genre has long been a significant part of the station's offerings.
We came across the paper just an hour or two before someone (not Eric) from WAER used our contact form to point it out; they also wanted to remind us WAER just celebrated its 62nd birthday yesterday, and the station is currently in the midst of its spring fundraiser.
