Bud Green Loses 2 Daughters in Accident

May 26, 2009 by CNYRadio.com

WATERTOWN -- We're very sad to have learned two of the four people killed in a car accident in Jefferson County on Saturday night were daughters of Bud "Green" Yeman, the afternoon personality at Froggy 97 (WFRY).  One of the young women was due to give birth next month.

According to a New York State Police release published by newzjunky.com, Yeman's daughters Susan Melgar, 18, and Denise Yeman, 14, were passengers in an SUV that veered off county route 47 in the Town of Champion, hitting a utility pole and a large tree.

Both teens and the driver, Rebecca Besaw, 17, were unable to recover from their injuries.  A fourth passenger, David Van Epps, 18, died on Sunday.  The car's owner, Tara Armer, 23, is the sole survivor.  She was in the back seat with Yeman and Van Epps, and as of Monday night, she was listed in serious condition at University Hospital in Syracuse.

According to a joint obituary for the teens, Susan Melgar was a member of the Felts Mills Fire Department.  She and her ex-husband Denis were expecting a baby girl on June 26.  Denise Yeman was a 9th grader on the honor roll at Carthage High School, involved in various clubs including the Watertown High School swim team.

Calling hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, at Bruce Funeral Home, 131 Maple St., Black River (Google Map). A funeral Mass will be said 10 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 208 Leray St., Black River (Google Map) with the Rev. Andrew Mulvaney, pastor, officiating.
