ITHACA -- Time's running out for Hobart & William Smith Colleges' construction permit to get new radio station WITH (90.1 FM) on the air. With some help from public broadcasters in Rochester and Binghamton, it looks like WITH will meet the deadline, with plans to sign-on sometime in May.
Word comes through this week's edition of Scott Fybush's NorthEast Radio Watch, published earlier this morning. Fybush reports Rochester's "WXXI is building the WITH facility at the tower site north of Ithaca owned by Binghamton public broadcaster WSKG, which already uses that tower to transmit WSQG (90.9 Ithaca), relaying the news/classical hybrid format of WSKG-FM in Binghamton."
The deal is part of a new partnership between existing HWS-owned station WEOS (89.7) and the larger WXXI. The Rochester station will work with WEOS to expand public affairs programming. Specifics on those plans -- and on WITH's schedule -- have not yet been released.
