Galaxy Communications Named "Business of the Year"

December 21, 2010 by CNYRadio.com

UTICA/ROME -- There's cause for celebration at Galaxy Communications: the company was named "Business of the Year" by the Mohawk Valley Chamber of Commerce.  The Syracuse-based broadcaster, which owns six stations in the Utica-Rome market, was named the winner among businesses with 50 or fewer employees.

In a statement, Mimi Griswold, VP/Programming for Galaxy said, "How we have grown from very humble beginnings with one radio station called K-ROCK at the back of a diner!  20 years later, we are still here, flourishing in a wonderful area with six great radio stations: WOUR, MIX 102.5 (WUMX), K-ROCK (WKLL) and our ESPN (WTLB/WRNY/WIXT) trimulcast!"

In addition to running radio stations, Galaxy Communications produces a number of community events including Fireworks Over Utica, the Taste of Utica and the Wine and Chocolate Festival.

Update Pending: Galaxy also sent a photo of their Utica staff from the awards luncheon, but we're having technical difficulties at the moment.  We'll get that photo added to this story later today.
