SYRACUSE -- At about the same time the Syracuse Press Club unveiled its latest slate of award winners, YNN senior reporter Bill Carey was awarded a New York Emmy for his work on the April 2, 2010 special program "Deadly Delusion," marking the one-year anniversary of a mass shooting in which 14 people were killed in Binghamton.
Specifically, the award comes in the "Writer: Program" category. Carey produced, wrote and hosted the 28-minute long program. This is the third Emmy awarded to Carey during his career, his first since joining YNN. It's also the first Emmy win to YNN's credit, following three nominations since the local news channel launched as News 10 Now in 2003. The full program, which aired a year ago this past Saturday, has been posted for viewing on YNN's website.
If you haven't checked the list of Syracuse Press Club awards yet, you'll find Deadly Delusion is also in the running there, in the Television Documentary category. Carey's report is up against two documentaries produced by PBS affiliate WCNY-TV. The order of rankings (first place, second place) will not be revealed until the SPC's awards dinner next month.
