PHILADELPHIA -- Former WOLF 1490 personality Don Lancer, who eventually went on to work for nearly 40 years at Philadelphia's KYW, has passed away. Multiple reports say Lancer, 68, lost his battle with cancer this morning.
Our thanks to a CNYRadio.com reader who remembers Lancer's time at WOLF, even tracking down the link to an aircheck from the WOLF 1490 Tribute Site. The reader, who wishes to remain anonymous, also recalls Lancer played the role of a reporter when WKBW did its own broadcast of War of the Worlds on Halloween in 1968.
Aside from working at "KB," Lancer also made a stop at WIFE in Indianapolis before arriving at KYW, where he would anchored newscasts and business reports for 37 years. According to Radio-Info.com, when CBS announced plans for layoffs in 2008, Lancer and another employee voluntarily retired, so that another colleague could escape the chopping block.
