UTICA -- Applications are now being accepted for journalists, anchors, producers and meteorologists as Nexstar Broadcasting moves closer to bringing a local news product back to ABC affiliate WUTR this fall. The operation will also produce newscasts for sister stations Fox 33 (WFXV) and MyNetwork 11 (WPNY-LP).
All of the jobs were recently listed on Nexstar Broadcasting's corporate website, along with positions available at other Nexstar properties around the country. (Technically, WUTR is owned by Mission Broadcasting, but controlled by Nexstar through a local services agreement.)
Back in March, Nexstar VP/GM Steve Merren announced plans to launch local news at a party marking the 25th anniversary of both WFXV and the Fox Television Network (they both debuted in late 1986, though WFXV's original call sign was WTUV).
Here are links to the four postings currently available on the Nexstar website:
All four postings instruct applicants to send their materials to Merren. Although there's no listing for a News Director opening, Merren told CNYTVNews.com today, "we are still searching for all of our positions. We have not hired a News Director yet."
When announcing the plans to revive the newsroom in late March, Merren said a total of 12 people would be hired and the weeknight newscasts would debut in mid-September, with timeslots as follows:
Although four newscasts are listed, the Anchor/Reporter job posting mentions three newscasts per day; it was announced earlier that the 7pm show on WPNY-LP would be a taped replay of the 6pm WUTR newscast.
CNYTVNews.com and CNYRadio.com encourage station managers to send their job postings directly to us. We're always happy to publish job openings FREE of charge and it's another source you can add to your station's EEO public file. Send those job postings to firstname.lastname@example.org or use the Contact Form.
