UTICA/ROME -- While the rain of Hurricane-turned-Tropical Storm Irene wasn't too intense for Syracuse, the Utica/Rome area got hit quite hard. Several streets in Oneida and Herkimer Counties have been closed due to severe flooding, and in fact, the NYS Thruway remains closed as of Tuesday night between Syracuse and Amsterdam. The locally-owned Roser cluster of stations is using social media to help people help each other as they clean up after Irene.
Kiss-FM (WSKS/WSKU) Promotions Director/APD Sean "S-Dot" Morelle says Roser Communications Network has established a Facebook page called "CNY Neighbors Helping Neighbors." It's designed to be a central point of contact for people who need help with post-storm recovery, and people willing to offer their help.
"People are encouraged to post what happened to them and what others can do to help out," Morelle explained. "Whether it be donations or just a helping hand." He tells CNYRadio.com the page is being maintained by members of the on-air staffs at Kiss-FM, Bug Country (WBUG/WBGK) and 95.5 WUTQ (WADR).
