UTICA -- A little over a month since Vic Vetters announced plans to leave NBC affiliate NewsChannel 2 (WKTV) for a new job in Providence, the station's parent owner has named a new GM -- who comes to Utica from Providence. While Vetters went to Providence's NBC affiliate (WJAR), Steve Doerr comes to WKTV from the market's ABC affiliate (WLNE).
MediaBistro.com reports Doerr left WLNE at the end of April, after the station was purchased by the former Citadel Broadcasting (which itself, has since been acquired by Cumulus Media).
Just like Vetters before him, Doerr will also serve as GM for Fox affiliate WFFF and ABC affiliate WVNY in Burlington, VT. That's where he clocked into work on Tuesday, his first day with Smith Media, according to a story on the WKTV website. According to the Utica Observer-Dispatch, Doerr's resume also includes some time as the GM of Dallas NBC affiliate KXAS. MediaBistro also ran a story on Doerr's new job earlier this week.
