SYRACUSE and UTICA/ROME -- Just like the previous few years, the start of November has brought about the start of wall-to-wall Christmas music on radios across Central New York. As expected, Galaxy's Classic Hits Sunny 102 (WZUN) in Syracuse and Hot AC Mix 102.5 (WUMX) in Utica/Rome are first to jump in the all-Christmas pool.
The two stations went all-holiday on the same date last year (as you may have also noticed in the "Today in History" sidebar on the right side of the screen). The year before, the switch came a day later, likely to get a Monday start because November 1st fell on a Sunday.
"Big Mike" Fiss, who hosts mornings for both stations out of Galaxy's studios in Syracuse's Armory Square, tells CNYRadio.com the all-Christmas playlist took over WUMX and WZUN at midnight this morning.
If the stations follow the same plan they've used in recent years, we can expect the "normal" playlists to return on December 26th.
Clear Channel's Y94FM (WYYY) in Syracuse and Townsquare's Lite 98.7 (WLZW) have been known to go all-Christmas as well, but both usually wait until a little later in November to make the change.
