SYRACUSE -- Viewers have been asking, and NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) today explained the noted recent absence of longtime anchor Rod Wood. He's recovering after "a minor surgical procedure," according to a statement released by the station this afternoon.
In a story on the ABC affiliate's website, the station says Wood "is feeling great and getting stronger every day." He had already been planning to take some vacation time in December, and he plans to return to work after the holidays.
A little over a year ago, Wood took several weeks off after undergoing surgery to remove prostate cancer. Today's announcement from WSYR-TV didn't elaborate on the nature of the most-recent procedure.
Wood, who has been with the station since 1976, is co-anchor of the station's 5:00, 5:30, 6:00 and 11:00pm newscasts.
We wish Rod all the best for a speedy recovery!
