SYRACUSE -- There's still time, but not much, for alumni of Syracuse University student-operated WJPZ-FM to RSVP for the station's 27th Annual Birthday Banquet. The dinner is slated for March 3 at the SU Sheraton, and includes this year's inductions into the WJPZ Hall of Fame.
This year's banquet -- themed "Live, Local and Rule Breaking" -- is just part of a full weekend of reunion activities, which begin with a Friday Conference on March 2 inside the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. Saturday night's banquet dinner has about 100 attendees registered so far, and WCBS Newsradio 880 afternoon drive anchor Wayne Cabot will deliver the keynote address.
According to a press release from the WJPZ Alumni Association, Hall of Fame inductees this year include:
Larry Barron ('87), Senior VP/Programming at Fremantle Media, is also among this year's class of inductees. He is unable to attend due to professional committments, so he will be formally inducted at next year's banquet.
"Our Alumni Association is committed to helping WJPZ continue its legacy as the #1 media classroom in America," said Jeff Wade (’97), President of the WJPZ Alumni Association and Program/News Director for WGAN-AM in Portland, Maine. "By brining our alumni – top leaders in all facets of the communications business – to campus this and every year, we continue a tradition like no other in college broadcasting."
Seats are $89 each. You can register and get more details on the WJPZ Alumni Association website.
