SYRACUSE -- Long gone are the days of weekly local televised bowling matches, but many fans still remember Marty Piraino. Known for his frequent appearances as a competitor and a host on programs like "Syracuse Bowls" and "WSTM Challenge Bowling" from the 1960s through the 1990s, Piraino died on Tuesday.
According to syracuse.com, Piraino, 88, had suffered a brief illness. He was part of the inaugural class inducted to the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame in 1987. CNY Central anchor Matt Mulcahy reported calling hours will be held Friday from 4-7pm at Farone & Son Funeral Home at 1500 Park Street in Syracuse, with funeral to follow on Saturday morning at 10am, at St. John the Baptist Church on Court Street.
