SYRACUSE -- Twenty local country music acts hoping to make it big will be performing next weekend, as New Country WOLF 105.1 hosts the Syracuse leg of this year's Texaco Country Showdown. In addition to the competitors, there will be a car show and a performance from national country music duo Walker McGuire.
The entire thing takes place at the Regional Market on Park Street in Syracuse, next Sunday, June 30. Gates open to the general public at 12:15pm and admission is free. Although it's too late to enter the musical competition, there's free admission for car show exhibitors, and they'll be allowed in starting at 11:00am so they can be in place before the doors open to spectators.
The Texaco Country Showdown begins at 2:00pm and car show trophies will be awarded at 5:30pm. Here are more details in a press releases provided to CNYRadio.com by New Country WOLF 105.1's Courtney Smith:
(SYRACUSE, New York.) New Country WOLF 105.1 will host America’s largest country music talent search for the third year. The 32nd Annual Texaco Country Showdown and Howlin’ Car Show presented by Billy Whittaker Trux will be on Sunday, June 30th at the Syracuse Regional Market with Nashville duo, Walker McGuire.
As heard and discovered on WOLF’s morning show, Big D & Bubba, Walker McGuire will bring their new country sound to Syracuse with originals like, “The Color Pink,” “American Dream,” and “Best Kinda Bad” which are already taking the country by storm. Much like the local artists competing in the showdown, they are two talented country boys chasing their dream.
Competitors in the showdown have the chance to win approximately $200,000 in cash and prizes that will be awarded nationwide. This includes the Grand Prize of $100,000 cash to the National Winner, presented at the National final televised special. Contestants in the car show will compete for cash prizes and the overall title, Best in Show, as well as trophies for Best in Class in the following classes: Car, Trucks, and Motorcycles.
The gate at The Syracuse Regional Market will open at 11:00am for car show participants ONLY and 12:15pm for the general public. Entrance into the Syracuse Regional Market to watch the Texaco Country Showdown and participate in the car show is free. The Showdown itself begins at 2:00pm, and the Trophies for the car show will be given out at 5:30pm.
“WOLF 105.1 is a big supporter of local country talent and we consider the Texaco Country Showdown one of the most anticipated events in country music each year,” said Skip Clark, Program Director. “It is an exciting community event that provides aspiring artists in our area an opportunity for state, regional, and national exposure while promoting a greater appreciation of country music.”
Open to vocal and/or instrumental performers, the Texaco Country Showdown welcomes individual acts or groups with up to seven members to compete. Acts also must not have performed on a record charted in the top 100 country format of Billboard, or the Gavin Report within eighteen months preceding local competition. A $20.00 entry fee was required of all twenty local acts entered in our Texaco Country Showdown on Sunday, July 30th. To ensure fairness, a uniform judging system is used on all levels of competition. Additional information regarding the Showdown is available at wolf1051.com or by calling New Country WOLF 105.1 at 315-472-0222.
