SYRACUSE — Spectrum News 1 chief photographer Mike Kuehner is the Syracuse Press Club’s 2026 winner of the Selwyn Kershaw Professional Standards Award, the club announced today.
Announcing Keuhner’s award today, the Syracuse Press Club said “coworkers described him as the ‘quintessential role model’ in the field” in their nomination letters. One colleague wrote that he’s “always the first person to jump in and lend a hand… even when he isn’t working.”
Kuehner’s TV news career spans more than two decades, starting at NewsChannel 34 WIVT in Binghamton before heading to a variety of other markets including Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Tampa and Orlando before returning to Central New York.
The SPC says this particular award is presented annually to a journalist who exemplifies the highest ethical standards, leadership and dedication to the craft. It’s one of the major awards that SPC traditionally announces in advance of its annual Professional Recognition Awards Banquet. The club previously announced it’s adding longtime NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) anchor Christie Casiciano to its Wall of Distinction in the Civic Center.
The winners of the rest of the SPC’s annual contest categories are traditionally revealed during the banquet. This year’s banquet is set for Saturday, May 2 in Syracuse; ticket sales closed this past Monday.
