SYRACUSE — Congratulations to Tim Fox of NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV), upon being named one of this year’s “Medal Award” winners by the Onondaga Historical Association. Fox and his fellow honorees will receive their medals during a ceremony next month in Syracuse.
In their awards announcement, the OHA said:
“A longtime leader in Central New York broadcast journalism, Tim Fox has helped shape the region’s media landscape through decades of reporting and storytelling. His work has connected residents to their community and highlighted the people and stories that define Central New York.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, Fox has been with channel 9 since 1981, starting out as a reporter and producer. Although he continues to appear on TV for the station’s “Tell Me Something Good” segments, his official title as Director of New Media includes serving as Executive Producer of the station’s long-running midday local talk show, “Bridge Street.”
Outside of NewsChannel 9, Fox — along with Christie Casciano and Lou Gulino — literally wrote the book on the history of “Syracuse Television,” published in 2013.
The Onondaga Historical Association describes the importance of this award as follows:
The OHA Medal is the highest honor we can bestow upon an individual or organization for contributions made to the cause of preserving and interpreting our heritage. Since OHA is the only general comprehensive history organization in this community, one might also consider this medal the highest tribute that can be awarded on behalf of the entire Onondaga County community to those who ensure history remains a vital part of our future.
The OHA Medal Awards breakfast is slated for May 21 at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown. Tickets start at $70 per seat and are on sale now through the OHA website.
