SYRACUSE — If you’re looking forward to meeting various local media personalities at the New York State Fair later this month, you can cross four people off your list. A longtime 95X personality and three people from the CNYCentral newsroom have already exited or soon will be exiting their jobs.
A report today from syracuse.com says 95X (WAQX) host Scott “dXn” Dixon has exited the Cumulus-owned rock station after 14 years. The report was based on a public Facebook post where Dixon thanked PD Joe DeTomasso for the opportunity. He also thanked listeners, as well as the local artists who appeared on his specialty show, “Locals Only.”
In addition to his regular airshift, Dixon served as Assistant PD for 95X, and was also “Content Production Captain” for SGNL, the streaming platform that replaced “The Rebel” in 2022. We noticed SGNL is no longer listed on the Cumulus Syracuse roster, no word on when that streaming-only service ended. Prior to his arrival at 95X in 2012, Dixon was part of the former ClearChannel’s relatively-short entry to the local rock station competition via New Rock 105 The Dog (WWDG) from 2003 to 2006.
Dixon’s departure comes shortly after three people announced they’re leaving their own jobs just a few doors up James Street, at CNY Central (WSTM / WTVH).
We already had a sense that sports director Samantha Croston would be exiting, after the station posted her job in July. While we were recently on vacation, the expected announcement was confirmed, with her last day set for this coming Monday.
The surprise we weren’t expecting is that, on the same day, sports reporter Ashley Wenskoski also announced she’s leaving NBC3 and CBS5. Her last day was August 6th. No word yet from CNY Central on who’ll be covering sports segments until replacements are named.
Meteorologist Violet Scibor also exited the Sinclair-owned cluster earlier this month, accepting a new job with NBC affiliate WPTV in West Palm Beach, Florida. Some readers may recall before she joined WSTM, Scibor started out at WKTV in Utica.
