Syracuse Press Club 2011 Award Winners Named

SYRACUSE -- Top journalists from Syracuse and surrounding markets gathered for the Syracuse Press Club's 33rd annual Scholarship and Professional Recognition Awards Dinner last night at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse.  Public stations WRVO and WAER dominated the radio categories, while there were plenty of ties for winners in the television categories.

WCNY Nets Area's Only Regional Murrow

SYRACUSE -- The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) 2011 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award Winners have been announced.  Between radio, television and online, WCNY-TV is the only local station to appear on the list.  "Our Veterans and Their Families: 21st Century Challenges" took home the regional Murrow in the Video News Documentary category.

WCNY's Spartano Promoted to VP/Broadcasting

SYRACUSE -- Although he's already held the post for at least a month, WCNY formally announced this week that Peter Spartano has been promoted to Vice President of Broadcasting. The award-winning journalist, who most recently held the title of Executive Producer, now oversees all television, radio, programming and education services provided by WCNY.

WCNY-TV Cancels One Show, Scales Back Another

SYRACUSE -- Citing a "decline in ratings and funding," WCNY-TV has cancelled WCNY Connected, a weekly lifestyle/entertainment show hosted by 93Q (WNTQ) morning co-hosts Ted Long and Amy Robbins.  Additionally, the station is pushing its long-running Central Issues back to its original weekly format, after trying out the show as a daily offering for awhile.
