SYRACUSE -- Experienced sales professional Peter S. Salizniak has been appointed as Director of Business Development and Sales for WCNY, according to a press release issued by the public broadcaster this week. He brings more than a dozen years of sales experience to the new position.
SYRACUSE -- Public broadcaster WCNY-TV/FM has named John S. Tonello as Vice President of Advancement, Communications and Content Delivery. Along with more than 20 years of experience in the communications field, Tonello brings experience in running a city -- in December, he wrapped up a two-term run as the Mayor of Elmira.
SYRACUSE -- Syracuse native Dusty Rhodes, who started his career at WOLF before graduating from SU and moving to Cincinnati, will be back on local airwaves again this Christmas Eve. The 50th anniversary of the nationally-known "Dusty Rhodes Christmas Show" will be carried locally on WCNY-HD2.
SYRACUSE -- His peers have spoken. Next month, Bill Knowlton from WCNY's Bluegrass Ramble will receive top honors for his efforts to promote bluegrass music. That honor will come in the form of the International Bluegrass Music Association's Distinguished Achievement Award, to be presented to Knowlton in Nashville on September 29.

SYRACUSE -- Public broadcaster WCNY says tickets are still available for "The Party: WCNY's New Year Celebration," happening at the Oncenter Ballroom in Syracuse. Admission includes food, an open bar and a midnight champagne toast. For those who prefer a quieter New Year's Eve at home, WCNY will televise the event live.
SYRACUSE -- Local PBS affiliate WCNY appears on the list of stations that have signed up to carry the next incarnation of Roger Ebert's movie review program. It's titled Roger Ebert presents At the Movies and it's set to debut next month.
UTICA-ROME -- Two of the three men who fell from a Smith Hill broadcast tower on Monday have been released from the hospital... and one of the workers has already returned to climb the tower again.
SYRACUSE -- Local PBS affiliate WCNY-TV has completed a locally-produced documentary that details work scientists and military personnel are performing in Greeland to study climate change. The program, Artic Air: A Greenlandic Journey with the 109th, will debut on Monday, November 8.
