Clear Channel Communication's addition of Ackerley's television stations, including WIXT in Syracuse, came under fire from Douglas F. Elznic who describes himself as a "party-in-interest to this matter because I am a resident of Manlius, New York."
Elznic wrote, "In the past few years, I have become frustrated with the increase in concentration of media that has been occurring with the Syracuse and Utica-Rome areas. I feel that Clear Channel's acquisition is contrary to the public interest..."
Elznic suggested that Clear Channel would be able to "initially provide extremely low advertising rates in both radio and television to affect the competition, and then...raise advertising rates once viable competitors are forced to reduce their operations..."
