Clear Channel closes on Ackerley deal

After 27 years The Ackerley Group is no more. Clear Channel Communications, which completed its acquisition of the company on Friday, now has 12 months to divest itself of radio and/or television stations in five markets across the country in order to remain within federal ownership guidelines.Locally it must sell either four radio or one television station in Utica and one radio or television station in Syracuse. As a result of the merger, Clear Channel adds WIXT TV 9 in Syracuse and WUTR TV 20 in Utica to its group of 12 radio stations in the two markets.
