Radio's wall-to-wall coverage of S.U. championship

April 8, 2003 by Scott Jameson

For anyone who couldn't get near a television set last night, or for those still without power, forced to listen to the game on battery operated radios or in their cars, there were a lot of choices to hear the Syracuse University Orangemen win the NCAA men's basketball national championship. With partner Matt Park offering color commentary, Mark Johnson, in his first season in Syracuse as the official 'Voice of the Orange', called the play-by-play action of the title game from New Orleans on 95X (WAQX) and ESPN Radio 1260 (WNDR).

Local sports station SportsRadio 620 (WHEN) spent a good part of the day talking about the upcoming game with Brent Axe, Bud Poliquin, Jim Lerch, and others providing hours of pregame chat. WHEN also aired play-by-play action through its deal with Westwood One.

570 WSYR aired commentary and analysis of the matchup from Joe Galuski and others before, during, and after the game, while the university's station, Jazz 88 (WAER), also provided live coverage of the national title game.
