SYRACUSE — Two former personalities from the top 40 days of 1490 WOLF have been inducted to the Radio Hall of Fame.
Fred Winston, who worked at WOLF in the 1960s, was on hand for the induction ceremony in Chicago earlier this week. According to the 1490 WOLF Tribute Site, Winston was here for 3 years before moving onto other markets like Pittsburgh and Denver before spending most of his career in Chicago.
The tribute site notes Winston was also WOLF’s station ID voice for part of the 70s, and he’s the first voice heard in the classic 80s movie “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
Dale Dorman was among several to be inducted posthumously. The Tribute site calls Dorman “one of Syracuse’s most popular night time disc jockeys.” After his time in Syracuse, Dorman went on to stations in San Francisco, Denver and Boston, where Dorman hosted mornings on WRKO and afternoons on Kiss 108 before retiring in 2008 from the former Oldies 103.3 WODS. He passed in 2014.
