WATERTOWN -- For the first time since Fall 2004, Arbitron has lifted its embargo on the Persons 12+ numbers for the Watertown market. One thing that clearly hasn't changed since 2004: country music is still king in the North Country.
Froggy 97 (WFRY) was #1 back then, and is still #1 in the Fall 2008 survey. The Stephens Media Group station (which was owned by Regent the last time the numbers were public) posted a 21.1 rating.
Trailing by nearly six points is CHR station "The Border" (WBDR) with a 15.4. Froggy's sister station, rocker Z93 (WCIZ), posts a 9.8 to claim third place. We drop more than four points to find fourth-place, Stephens' news/talker WTNY.
Then it's a three-way tie straddling the U.S./Canadian border for fifth place: Community Broadcasters' WOTT and WTOJ each posted a 4.9, along with Kingston, Ontario-based K-Rock 105.7 (CIKR).
Three Clear Channel Syracuse stations managed to get enough diary mentions to show up near the bottom of the survey. B104.7 (WBBS), Hot 107.9 (WWHT) and Y94FM (WYYY) each earned 0.8 ratings points in Watertown.
It should be noted that these numbers are the only numbers Arbitron releases to the general public: Persons 12+, Monday-Friday, 6am to midnight. They are merely an "overall" view, and do not necessarily reflect the target demographic of any particular station.
Other Markets:
- Utica-Rome numbers were also released on Monday
- Syracuse numbers have been embargoed since Spring 2008
- Ithaca/Cortland numbers have been embargoed since Fall 2004
