POTW: Froggy 97's North Country Idol (2009)

February 27, 2009 by

WATERTOWN -- Like it or not, there's no denying the success of Fox TV's American Idol, currently running in its 8th season.  And as long as the show does well, so do many regional efforts that mimic the show -- including the current "North Country Idol" contest sponsored by Froggy 97 (WFRY).

Upper Left: WFRY station mascot Mr. Froggy with Bud Green at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
Lower Right: WFRY PD Stan Soboleski says more than 600 people came out to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds to witness the selection of the "top 50" finalists.

Soboleski, who kindly sent in these photos, tells us last Friday was week two of their 8-week competition.  When it's all said and done, the grand prize winner gets $1,000 plus 2 hours of recording time at a local studio.  There's more details about the competition on the Froggy 97 website.

Got Pictures?
Send 'em in, just like Stan did!  There's a new Picture of the Week every Friday.  We're always interested in a look at what's happening today at your station, or a glimpse back at something notable from the past.  You can reach us at or upload your photo submission through our handy Contact Form if you prefer.
