WCNY Taps Arbetter to Expand News & Public Affairs

August 11, 2009 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- WCNY has hired Susan Arbetter, the former host of public TV's New York Now, as part of a "major expansion" of news and public affairs programming offered on WCNY television and radio, as well as the stations' website.
A press release from WCNY says Arbetter "will split her time between WCNY in Syracuse and the State Capitol in Albany where she will host and produce live radio shows."

Arbetter will also produce TV news reports about happenings at the Capitol, which will be made available to both public and commercial stations alike.  WCNY Vice President of Television Brian Damm says, "my vision is to see Susan's daily political reports from the Capitol on stations around the state, from Long Island to Buffalo."

Arbetter is no stranger to Central New York political junkies -- before joining WCNY, she hosted the award-winning New York Now, which originated from Albany PBS affiliate WMHT and was carried by all 9 PBS affiliates across the state.

Prior to WMHT, Arbetter served as News Director for six years at WAMC Northeast Public Radio, also based in Albany.

In the press release, Arbetter says she is "thrilled to be working at WCNY with such a high energy, passionate and talented team."

The announcement did not provide specific details about start dates, timeslots or titles for any of the content which Arbetter will be producing.
