Classic Local Tunes Sunday as "Soundcheck" Turns 30

December 5, 2009 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE/UTICA -- It's been 30 years since Dave Frisina started featuring local musicians on his popular show Soundcheck, and this Sunday night, listeners have a rare chance to hear the very first show from 1979.

A tip of the hat to Mark Bialczak's Listen Up blog for pointing out the anniversary (it's below the big section about the latest holiday CD from Frisina's co-worker, Big Mike Fiss).

The 30th anniversary flashback to show #1 will air in its normal timeslot, 9pm.  Soundcheck can be heard in the Syracuse and Oswego areas on TK99/105 (WTKW/WTKV) and in Utica on 96.9 WOUR.

Longtime listeners may recall Frisina started Soundcheck in 1979 while working at 95X (WAQX).  The show was pulled off the air briefly in 2003, as Frisina told the Syracuse New Times last year, but quickly resurfaced when the host accepted an offer to bring the show to its current home.
