SYRACUSE — Almost four months after Gary Nolan left the only locally-hosted weekday timeslot at 105.9 The Big Talker (WXTL), the Citadel station is putting out the call for a replacement. “We’re searching for someone who knows how to immerse him-or-herself in local issues and converse with local newsmakers and callers,” Ops Manager Tom Mitchell says.
He continues, “taking a position is one thing, but we’re not looking for someone to preach a particular political ideology; instead communicate even-handedly in a compelling way.”
Here’s the official job description Mitchell provided to CNYRadio.com:
Local Talk personality, live Monday-Friday. Personal appearances, client meetings, and production. Experience with digital automation and audio editing programs a plus. Citadel Broadcasting is an equal opportunity employer. Send aircheck and resume to syracuse.jobs@citcomm.com.
When Nolan revealed that he would be leaving — at the beginning of his last day on WXTL — he said that he would be returning to Missouri, where he worked prior to Syracuse, to launch a syndicated talk show. Although Nolan does host a local weekday talk show at that same Missouri station, we haven’t seen or heard a single word on that syndication deal.
We’re always happy to help spread the word about local broadcasting jobs. It’s a FREE service and it’s one more recruitment source you can add to your station’s public file. Send those job postings to cnyradio@cnyradio.com. CNYRadio.com covers radio in Syracuse, Utica/Rome and Ithaca-Cortland, while CNYTVNews.com covers TV in Syracuse and Utica.

Well, in my own view, I’d rather have seen 105.9 flip to simulcast AM 1260, then have Fox Sports Network returned there, and then carry both Dan Patrick and Jim Rome.

It would be nice to have a common sense alternative to mr. arrogant on WSYR in the afternoons, especially with CNY Talk Radio’s recent changes, right now it has me turning the radio off in the afternoon.
