SYRACUSE -- The rumors have been swirling ever since NewsChannel 9's Steve Infanti joined the cast of ESPN Radio's weekday afternoon talk show back in August... and now those rumors are confirmed. Starting Monday, Upon Further Review will be simulcast on television. Fans will be able to listen on the radio, or watch on digital channel 9.2.
Originally titled Disturbing the Peace, the show also has a new title, Upon Further Review, which is already being promoted on the ESPN Radio website. The host lineup remains the same, with Infanti joined by ESPN Radio PD Chris McManus and former NFL Star and SU All American Donovin Darius.
In a press release, Galaxy CEO Ed Levine said, "ESPN RADIO has been the number one growth engine for Galaxy in the past twelve months. By adding the simulcast on 9.2, now ESPN RADIO will truly be everywhere."
In order to accomodate the simulcast, NewsChannel 9 GM Theresa Underwood said, "we’ve built a new third studio at NewsChannel 9 to house the show, and that will allow us to bring even more new local programming to Central New York audiences." (For those of you keeping score at home, the first two studios are where the ABC affiliate's newscasts and its weekday morning talk show Bridge Street originate.)
ESPN Radio consists of FM translators 97.7 (W249BC/Mattydale) and 100.1 (W261AC/Oswego), along with AM stations WTLA and WSGO. WSYR-TV digital channel 9.2 is available on Time Warner Cable channel 890 and Verizon FiOS channel 470. We presume the reason the TV simulcast will end at 5:00 would be to allow the ABC affiliate to continue its tradition of making "Live Doppler 9" available to viewers anytime during its local newscasts on 9.1.
ESPN RADIO Syracuse, 97.7 FM and 100.1FM, and NewsChannel 9 WSYR are teaming up to simulcast ESPN’S afternoon sports talk show on TV, starting Monday, October 17th.
The show is called “Upon Further Review.” It airs from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on ESPN RADIO. The first two hours will also air on WSYR 9.2, Time Warner Digital Channel 890. The show features NewsChannel 9 Sports Director Steve Infanti and ESPN RADIO afternoon host Chris McManus. Also joining the broadcast team is Donovin Darius, the former NFL Star and All American at Syracuse University.
Galaxy Communications C.E.O. Ed Levine says, “ESPN RADIO has been the number one growth engine for Galaxy in the past twelve months. By adding the simulcast on 9.2, now ESPN RADIO will truly be everywhere.”
NewsChannel 9 General Manager Theresa Underwood adds, “We’re thrilled to partner with Galaxy Communications on this project. We’ve built a new third studio at NewsChannel 9 to house the show, and that will allow us to bring even more new local programming to Central New York audiences.”
ESPN RADIO is locally owned and operated by Galaxy Communications. NewsChannel 9 WSYR, owned by Newport Television LLC, is in its 50th year serving Central New York.
