SYRACUSE -- After working in various capacities at Cumulus Media's 95X (WAQX) for most of the past nine years, Kevin Keefe is moving upward -- both in terms of geography and title. As of next Monday, he'll officially start as the General Manager of a three-station cluster in Ogdensburg, along the Saint Lawrence River.
Keefe tells CNYRadio.com he's been at 95X since 2002, "save for a 2-year stretch where I worked for Stern Advertising as a media buyer." Starting out as a promotions intern, Keefe climbed his way up the ladder, serving as the local board op for the syndicated Howard Stern Show, producer for the Beaner & Ken Morning Show, and eventually working his way into sales, events, "just about everything you can do!"
His new employer is Community Broadcasters, LLC, a Watertown-based company operated by Bruce Mittman and former Pilot Communications owner Jim Leven. Keefe will oversee the company's Ogdensburg cluster, which includes ESPN Radio affiliate 1400 WSLB(AM), country station 95.3 WLFK and news/talker 92.7 WQTK.
"I'm really looking forward to incorporating all of my past experience into this new position," Keefe told CNYRadio.com, adding, "the people I have worked with at Citadel/Cumulus have definitely shown me the right way to do radio." Keefe says he's "very anxious" to get started up north, and he looks "forward to working and learning under a real radio legend like Jim Leven and Bruce Mittman."
We wish Kevin all the best in his new venture.
