UTICA-ROME -- It appears that WRUY 1450 is closer to getting back on the air. We've received reports of the station running a loop of "national" PSAs over the weekend, along with an ID for "WRUY 1450AM Rome, Utica, Syracuse, NY."
Reader and broadcast engineer Bob Carter posted on the CNYRadio.com Facebook Page when he heard the audio on Friday evening. When he checked back again on Saturday afternoon, the station had signed back off-the-air. Carter surmised (and we have no reason to doubt) it was simply a transmission test. Another CNYRadio.com reader also contacted us with a similar report over the weekend.
WRUY has been silent for most of the time since current owner Tune In Broadcasting purchased the station last May. As reported here earlier this month, TIB has attributed the prolonged silence to the need to build a new local studio for the station. The FCC has given the station a final deadline of May 7 to have the station up and running for good, or lose the license. With this weekend's testing, it appears that WRUY has been making progress to meet that deadline.
