SYRACUSE -- There aren't many traditions in local broadcasting that have lasted for 31 years, but next Wednesday, longtime local radio morning man "Big Mike" Fiss will host his 31st annual live Christmas broadcast. Big Mike's entire morning show will feature live vocal performances from nearly 20 community groups including school choruses and church choirs.
As has been the tradition for the past several years, the live broadcast will originate from the center court at Driver's Village (formerly Penn-Can Mall) in Cicero, so fans can either listen on the radio, or stop by to watch part or all of the show in-person. The show is set to take place next Wednesday, December 19, from 6:30 to 10:00am.
Admission is free, and sponsors will be on-hand to provide coffee and breakfast goodies. Doors open at 6:00am, and here's the rundown Big Mike provided to CNYRadio.com:
For last year's Christmas show -- the milestone 30th anniversary -- Fiss assembled "the biggest line-up ever," and the show ran well beyond the usual morning drive timeslot. Although this year's lineup is a bit shorter, fans hoping to hear some of their favorite regional performers won't be denied the opportunity. "We'll be spreading the cheer over the next couple of weeks," as several artists are scheduled to visit Fiss and co-host Melissa Midgley live in-studio. Here's the schedule for those additional performances:
Fiss notes that "The Action!" appeared in studio this morning, and he promises "more surprise visits," from artists yet to be named, between now and Christmas.
