STAMFORD, CT — Former Syracuse Chiefs play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti has been named to the same role for NBC and Peacock’s Sunday Night Baseball telecasts for the upcoming 2026 MLB season. He’ll begin the season in Los Angeles, when the Dodgers host the Arizona Diamondbacks on March 26.
Benetti previously worked play-by-play for NBC’s “MLB Sunday Leadoff” on Peacock in 2022, a year after calling baseball for NBC during the summer Olympics in Tokyo.
In an NBC Sports press release, Executive Producer Sam Flood said, “After Jason finished the 2022 baseball season with us, we told him that if we ever got MLB back, he’d be our first call. Jason is one of the best play-by-play announcers in the business and we’re thrilled to have him back on a full-time basis with NBC Sports, beginning with Sunday Night Baseball.”

In a new twist this season, Benetti will be paired each week with color analysts who have a connection to the participating teams. “Each week is going to be a new, unique experience with analysts who all have different viewpoints on the game of baseball,” said Benetti.
In addition to his Sunday night duties with NBC, the network says Benetti will remain as the TV voice of the Detroit Tigers, his third year with that team.
Over at syracuse.com, Brent Axe recalls the 2005 Syracuse University grad called games for the Syracuse Chiefs from 2005-2006 and again from 2009-2014. In addition to the bachelor’s in broadcasting, economics and psychology that Benetti earned in Syracuse, he went on to obtain a JD from Wake Forest School of Law in 2011.
As for local baseball, the Syracuse Mets will, according to its website, continue to broadcast games on Cumulus Media’s The Score 1260 (WSKO) with SU (’24) and Fayetteville-Manlius (’20) grad Jack Gordon behind the mic, starting March 27.
