CNY Central hiring Investigative Reporter, Weekend Sports Anchor

SYRACUSE — Sinclair’s CNY Central cluster (NBC3 / WSTM, CBS5 / WKOF and CW6 / WSTM-DT 3.2) shared a pair of job postings with CNYTVNews.com. They’re looking to hire an investigative reporter, as well as a weekend sports anchor who would also serve as a multimedia journalist for a few days during the week.

The investigative reporter vacancy is presumably intended to replace Mary Keilar, who left the cluster in December for a job at KTNV in Las Vegas. Here’s the full posting provided by Sinclair:

Job Description – I-TEAM INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER The CNY Central News Team is seeking to “rebuild” it’s award-winning I-Team Investigative Reporting Division after more than three years of significant success and acclaim. This is the only Investigative News Team in Central NY (Syracuse DMA) and our “Point of Difference” coverage is aimed at Enriching Local Lives through the power of journalism. We’re looking for aggressive, enterprising news reports who are prepared to dig deeper into complex situations with a relentless intensity.  Candidates should be prepared to (1) question government leaders, (2) follow the money to hold those spending our tax dollars accountable, (3) and embrace being the ‘voice of the voiceless’ in our community. An idea candidate is able to demonstrate a natural curiosity about our community, a proficiency in writing for both broadcast and digital platforms, and possess storytelling techniques that make investigative and impactful reporting memorable. Our veteran news team and its investigative experience is fully prepared to coach, collaborate, and grow the best candidates into ac ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develop and maintain contacts and sources in the community to enterprise story ideas Identify and pitch investigative angles to big daily news stories Work closely with Producer and Executive Producer to refine investigative pitches and story scripts Develop a network of sources and experts to generate investigative stories on a regular basis Write online versions of investigative reports and work with Digital Investigative Producer on “web extra” content for each investigation Maintain an active social media presence to build your brand and solicit original story ideas Other duties as assigned Requirements: Must be able to develop and maintain sources Dynamic live television and storytelling skills are a must Strong social media skillset for both research and promoting stories as well as gathering viewer input Knowledge of the FOAI (Freedom of Information Act) process, computer-assisted reporting, and data-driven reporting along with familiarity of legal issues related to investigative television news reporting are essential Strong writing skills and knowledge of current events (insert years of experience needed) of investigative reporting experience preferred History of award-winning investigative journalism preferred While applying please provide an online portfolio / reel link for review.
