SYRACUSE and UTICA — At least two former Syracuse TV reporters enjoyed victories on election night. Jean Kessner was re-elected to the Syracuse Common Council. Stefan Mychajliw was re-elected as Erie County Comptroller in his hometown of Buffalo. And in Utica, longtime WIBX “Auto Talk” host Ed Welsh was re-elected to the Oneida County Legislature.

Updated 10/20 — SYRACUSE — An obituary published today advises, “be prepared to smile, laugh, and cry” at a celebration of life this weekend in Cazenovia, in memory of former WSYR radio news anchor Tara Howard Knauff.  She died on Monday following a battle with cancer.

UTICA/ROME — The newsroom at Townsquare Media’s 950 WIBX is a bit shorthanded this week, following the departure of Gino Geruntino.  He has accepted a new position with Oswego NPR affiliate WRVO, leaving WIBX on the search for a replacement.

UTICA-ROME — Sixty-six years ago today, on May 2, 1947, federal regulators gave WIBX the green light to move to its current home at 950AM. Thanks to a former WIBX broadcaster, we’re pleased to share an aircheck of the switch from 1230AM to 950AM.

ROCHESTER — Former WIBX manager Randy Gorbman has a new job in Rochester. After many years as news director at WHAM 1180 in Rochester (which included occasional appearances voicing reports for sister station 570 WSYR in Syracuse), Gorbman has a new job a bit higher up the AM dial.
