Another success story for the power of local radio. A Sunday radiothon on Clear Channel's Power 106.9 (WPHR) is credited with rescuing Syracuse's Juneteenth Festival from severe cutbacks due to a lack of funding.
Ten Syracuse radio stations are sponsoring two different radiothons over the next two days to benefit the two Manlius firefighters who died in the line of duty last week. Funds raised will go directly to the families of Timothy Lynch and John Ginocchetti.
According to Power 106.9 program director Butch Charles, "there's a whole lot of the general population that likes and listens to urban music. We want to make sure everybody can hear it."
