NEW YORK CITY - Longtime syndicated morning show host Don Imus is battling prostate cancer. The 68-year-old made the announcement on his show this morning.
Locally, the Imus in the Morning show is carried by 92.7 The Drive (WXUR) in the Utica-Rome market. Clear Channel's Sportsradio 620 (WHEN) in Syracuse used to carry Imus, until he was fired by former syndicator CBS Radio for making racially-charged comments on the air in 2007. Imus has not returned to the Syracuse airwaves since that incident.
Imus' announcement today sparked many articles from media sources like Fox News and the Associated Press. Imus says the cancer is at stage two, which means it has not spread beyond the prostate, and he is hoping to make a full recovery.
Imus said he was unsure whether he'd go public with the diagnosis, but figured he should, because he will likely need to take some time off for his treatment.
