WATERTOWN -- The Spring 2009 Arbitron ratings for the Watertown market are out, and the "public" Persons 12+ numbers show Stephens Media Group's Froggy 97 (WFRY) maintaining a very comfortable lead over the competition.
With a 21.2 rating, Froggy was one of only two stations posting double-digit numbers. Community Broadcasters-owned The Border (WBDR) and its CHR format ranked second, with a 13.6 rating. Froggy's number was flat compared to Fall 2008, and The Border's spring number is a decline of nearly two points.
Next is Stephens rocker Z93 (WCIZ), which also lost almost 2 points, checking in with a 7.6. Sister news/talker WTNY and Community's Rock 100.7 (WOTT) tied for fourth place, each garnering a 6.1 rating.
Notable a little further down the list is Tunes 92-5 (WBLH), which more than doubled its audience from a 1.6 last fall, to a 3.8 in the spring.
ESPN "The Winner" (WNER) was not -- it was one of nearly a dozen stations tied for last place with a 0.8 rating: the list also includes Lowville's The Moose (WBRV), a few Canadian stations, and a handful of Syracuse stations.

It's important to note that Persons 12+ ratings provide an overall look at the ratings, but do not necessarily reflect the specific target demographics sought by individual stations. It's also usually common to compare year-to-year rather than book-to-book, but the Spring 2008 P12+ numbers were embargoed.
