GENEVA -- NPR affiliate WEOS has unveiled the winning photos from its "2010 Listener Calendar" contest. The challenge: showcase the beauty of the Finger Lakes region -- but no waterfalls allowed! In addition to revealing the winners, WEOS is now also selling the calendars. Proceeds benefit the station.
You may recall reading about the call for photo submissions back in July. WEOS General Manager Aaron Read tells CNYRadio.com, "we got 35 submissions and after much deliberation (they were great pics!), narrowed it down to 12 winners." Read says waterfall pictures were ruled out because "there's already tons of those calendars out there."
The 12 winning photos are featured on the WEOS website -- and in this case, nobody really goes home a loser because all 35 submissions are featured in a collage on the front cover.
The calendars are available for $20 each, with $5 from each sale going directly to support WEOS. The station is located on the campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, with repeaters in downtown Geneva and Ithaca.
