SYRACUSE and UTICA-ROME -- Arbitron continues to embargo the public release of ratings information for these two markets, but the competing Eastlan Ratings service is now sharing its version of the station performance story with the general public.
At this time, we're awaiting permission from Eastlan to quote or reproduce ratings information, so we can't really get into specific details. But AllAccess.com does already have permission, and they've posted all the numbers on their website. You need to login, but memberships are free. Here are direct links to the ratings lists:
Generally, without permission to share exact numbers, it's usually acceptable to share "general overview" information. In Syracuse, the Eastlan Fall 2009 survey found usual leader country B104.7 (WBBS) swapping its #1 ranking with Clear Channel sister station, Newsradio 570 WSYR. An hour east on the Thruway, similar results -- perennial leader Big Frog 104 (WFRG) ties for first with Regent sister station Newsradio 950 WIBX. In both cases, the talker gained a few points while the country station lost a few.
Interestingly, Eastlan's surveys include both commercial and non-commercial stations. Arbitron, by comparison, usually only includes commercial stations on its public ratings, while non-commercial results are published by way of the Radio Research Consortium.
Similar to Arbitron, Eastlan is only making results of all persons 12+, Mon-Sun, 6a-Mid available. While these numbers give the public an overall glance at the market's performance, it doesn't necessarily give an accurate picture of the performance of stations that may be targeting more specific audience demographics.
