SYRACUSE -- Top journalists from Syracuse and surrounding markets gathered for the Syracuse Press Club's 33rd annual Scholarship and Professional Recognition Awards Dinner last night at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse. Public stations WRVO and WAER dominated the radio categories, while there were plenty of ties for winners in the television categories.
Here at CNYRadio.com, we were happy to win second place for "Public Service" in the Internet category. (A tip of the hat to Crouse Hospital, who won first place for their website.)
In addition to the Professional Recognition categories (a complete list for all winners in radio, television and internet appears below), there were a number of Club Awards presented. Among them, CNYcentral (WSTM, WSTQ-LP) anchor Matt Mulcahy shared the Gus Bliven-Joe Ganley-Mario Rossi Career Achievement Award with recently retired Post-Standard restaurant critic Yolanda Wright.
Longtime NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) photog Eddie Jones shared the Selwyn Kershaw Professional Standards Award with Post-Standard editor Richard Sullivan and writer John O'Brien.
The A. Brohmann Roth Newcomer Award was awarded to Megan Hislop, a producer at WCNY-TV. And WAER's Ted Conroy won the club's $2000 Devesty-Williams Scholarship.
