SYRACUSE -- We saw the writing on the wall last week when his job was advertised... now CNY Central Sports Director Tommy Sladek confirms for CNYRadio/CNYTVNews this is his final week in Syracuse before taking a new job in the Big Apple.
Sladek says he has accepted an offer to work as Social Content Creator for Fanatics Sportsbook in New York City. Focused on creating digital videos, Sladek says he'll continue to appear on-camera, while also shooting, editing and performing other behind-the-scenes work.
"Bittersweet leaving Syracuse and I'll miss it a ton," Sladek said in an email to CNYRadio/CNYTVNews today. In a video he posted to his X account this morning, Sladek says the move puts him closer to family which recently moved from the Philadelphia area, farther south, into Delaware and Maryland.
Sladek joined CNYCentral in 2018 as a multi-media journalist, but said this morning he's always wanted to focus on sports. In his farewell, Sladek recalls a point where he almost left CNYCentral in order to pursue sports broadcasting opportunities elsewhere.
That's when News Director Sean Carroll and then-Sports Director Niko Tamurian offered him a hybrid news/sports opportunity. It proved to be a good move, as Sladek took the Sports Director job when Tamurian left for Seattle's KOMO-TV in 2021.
We wish Tommy all the best in his new role!
CNY Central includes NBC3 (WSTM), CW6 (WSTM 3.2), both owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group, along with CBS5 (WTVH), which is operated by Sinclair through a Shared Services Agreement.
