Sunny 102 dedicates studio to Rick Gary

May 16, 2025 by CNYRadio.com

SYRACUSE -- Locally-owned classic hits station Sunny 102 (WZUN) dedicated its broadcast studio to its longtime morning host and NYS Broadcasters Association Hall of Famer Rick Gary today.

The station posted a video of the unveiling of the new "Rick Gary Studio" light-up plaque on Facebook.

The station said, "Cheers to Rick for his 18 years (so far) on Sunny 102!"

Gary started with Sunny 102 on the afternoon drive shift in 2007, shortly after he was dropped from the morning show across town at Y94FM (WYYY), the result of one of many waves of staffing cuts at Clear Channel stations nationwide.

Longtime Syracuse residents may remember Gary as one half of the edgy "Rick and Ron" morning show on WOLF, alongside the late Ron Bee. In the mid 80s, Gary joined NewsChannel 9 (then WIXT, now WSYR-TV), where he spent most of his time as co-anchor of the ABC affiliate's morning newscasts, before becoming one of the original co-hosts of the "Bridge Street" talk show from 2004 until his sudden exit in 2009.

Rick Gary and Charles Osgood at the 2009 NYSBA Hall of Fame Induction in New York City on November 12, 2009.

Gary was inducted to the NYS Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame in 2009 and to the Syracuse Area Music Awards Hall of Fame in 2011.
