SYRACUSE — CNYRadio.com has been notified that “The Jim Reith Show Unleashed Podcast” is going live at 11:15am today with “hopefully all the participants of the Friends of the Zoo donation story,” including confirmed appearances from Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon (R) and County Comptroller Marty Masterpole (D).
The issue has been big in the news lately, as the non-profit “Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo” has accused McMahon of pressuring it to donate a million dollars toward the controversial Harborview Aquarium project, which is still under construction and millions of dollars above the original budget.
According to various local news reports, the non-profit group operates the gift shop at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo and stated it did not want to donate the money toward the aquarium. The group says McMahon threatened to demand the County get a larger cut of gift shop sales and also put the gift shop concession out for a public bid in retaliation for its refusal to cooperate.
McMahon told syracuse.com that his proposals to change-up the Zoo’s gift shop arrangements are “long overdue” but the non-profit group says the timing seems suspect given that the current arrangement has been in place for 40 years without any issue until now.
The Jim Reith Show Unlaunched Podcast usually produces one episode per week, available on all major podcast platforms in addition to a live YouTube video stream which is also available for later on-demand viewing. Today’s convening of the key players in this controversy is a separate, extra edition of the podcast. You can find links in the CNYRadio.com Podcast Directory.
