SYRACUSE — Your editor was out of town for the long holiday weekend, but thanks to CNYRadio/CNYTVNews readers, we hear that one of the weekend anchors at CNY Central announced their departure. The station group also posted a job opening today for a Content Producer.
The anchor in question is Nicole LaFiandra, who joined CNY Central in 2003 and was most recently anchor of Weekend Today in Central New York on NBC3 (WSTM). While we missed the announcement on-air (and we haven’t seen it posted it on the station’s website or socials), we trust the word of our source, a fellow former broadcast journalist here in the market. According to our source, LaFiandra made the announcement on Sunday morning’s broadcast, telling viewers she has accepted an offer from a station in Cleveland, Ohio.
LaFiandra’s departure comes less than a month after that of her former Weekend TICNY colleague, meteorologist Violet Scibor, who left for a station in Florida. Both former members of the CNY Central sports department also left within the past month. To the best of our knowledge, CNY Central hasn’t yet named permanent replacements for any of the vacancies, but the previous listings for a Sports Director and Weekend Sports Anchor appear to be closed.
CNY Central is owned by Sinclair Broadcast group and consists of NBC 3 (WSTM), CBS 5 (WKOF 15.1), CW 6 (WSTM-DT 3.2) and ROAR affiliate WTVH (channel 5.1).
