SYRACUSE -- Full-time undergraduate journalism students are invited to apply for the Syracuse Press Club's DeVesty-Williams Scholarship. The $2,000 award will be offered to one student who is a permanent resident of, and attends college within, the Syracuse Press Club's 21-county service area.
SYRACUSE -- Citing a "decline in ratings and funding," WCNY-TV has cancelled WCNY Connected, a weekly lifestyle/entertainment show hosted by 93Q (WNTQ) morning co-hosts Ted Long and Amy Robbins. Additionally, the station is pushing its long-running Central Issues back to its original weekly format, after trying out the show as a daily offering for awhile.

To give listeners an incentive to open their wallets, all pledges will be doubled by a third party, dollar for dollar.
SYRACUSE -- The Mars Hill Network, based in Syracuse with flagship station WMHR, hosted its second "Christian Professional Media Alliance" meeting last week in Liverpool. Mars Hill says it hopes the group will facilitate networking among Christians who work in the media.
SYRACUSE -- Local stations are once again in the running for the Academy of Country Music Awards. This year, Clear Channel's B104.7 (WBBS) is up for medium market "Station of the Year." Meantime, locally-owned New Country WOLF 105.1's morning show is nominated for "Broadcast Personality of the Year."
