Updated 1:55pm with a correction — SYRACUSE — Several years apart from each other, Adam Schein and Joel Godett both attended Syracuse University and both worked at the Clear Channel radio cluster in Syracuse. Today, both are in the news for landing prominent new jobs in sports broadcasting.

ROCHESTER — Former 95X (WAQX) manager Bob Morgan is returning to radio.  He’s been tapped to run Clear Channel’s Rochester cluster, according to Inside Radio.  Morgan ran 95X from 1987 to 1990.  For the past 13 years, he was Senior VP of broadcast services for American Tower.  Immediately prior, he spent five years running the

SYRACUSE — With many stations now operating in clusters, it’s not too surprising to see on-air staff from sister stations at the same event.  But two morning hosts… from different companies… in the same location during their regular timeslot?  It’s pretty rare, but it happened last week.

SYRACUSE — Doug Logan isn’t leaving his job as Director of Time Warner Cable Sports, but he’s adding a new role to help shape the future of a local hospital. Meantime, Karin Franklin-King, one of Logan’s former co-workers, has a new job of her own.

SYRACUSE — Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Saundra Smokes, the acclaimed longtime local journalist who added “radio talk show host” to her resume at Power 620 (WHEN) just six weeks before she passed away on Wednesday.  According to her obituary, funeral services will be held at the Abundant Life Christian Center, 7000 All Nations Blvd.

Updated 7:45pm with more details — SYRACUSE — Journalist and radio host Saundra Smokes, who just started a new talk show on Power 620 (WHEN) in June, passed away today. According to published reports, Smokes collapsed in her home on Monday and died today after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was 57 years old.

OSWEGO — Public radio fans who live in or travel through northern New York have a new option to catch programming from WRVO Public Media. The station’s newest full-power repeater, WRVH, is now on the air at 89.3FM.

SYRACUSE — You might say they’re a motley crew, even though you probably won’t hear them playing any Motley Crue.  Four WSEN-FM personalities recently posed for this photo at a gradation party for the daughter of afternoon host John Carucci.

OSWEGO — NPR affiliate WRVO, with help from its various repeater stations across the region, appears to be the leader among public radio stations in the Syracuse and Utica-Rome markets.  Radio Research Consortium released the numbers this week.
