SYRACUSE — NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) News Director Jim Campagna is ready to call it a career after nearly 50 years in broadcasting. He’s set to retire next week, and the Nexstar-owned ABC affiliate has named its next newsroom boss.

SYRACUSE — Weekend anchor Allura Leggard announced she’s leaving the compound which houses NBC3 (WSTM), CBS5 (WTVH) and CW6 (WSTM-DT 3.2) this week, after three and a half years with the stations.

SYRACUSE — The man who played “Verry Hairy,” the sidekick to Mike Price’s “Baron Daemon” character on channel 9 decades ago, has passed away. Dennis Calkins, who primarily worked as the ABC affiliate’s first art director from 1962 to 2003, died earlier this week after fighting prostate cancer. He was 86.
