SYRACUSE — Local PBS affiliate WCNY appears on the list of stations that have signed up to carry the next incarnation of Roger Ebert’s movie review program.  It’s titled Roger Ebert presents At the Movies and it’s set to debut next month.

SYRACUSE — Anyone who works inside TV knows “enhanced widescreen” isn’t the same thing as true high-definition, but the folks at CNY Central (the trio comprised of WSTM, WTVH and WSTQ-LP) are still hoping their new “enhanced widescreen” newscasts, debuting today, will turn some heads.  Updated 12/14.

NEW YORK CITY — Local fans of former WSTM anchor/reporter Jeff Glor will have more chances to see him on TV starting in 2011. The current Saturday anchor of the CBS Evening News will take over the news desk at the CBS Early Show.

SYRACUSE — After almost a year off the air, low-power analog television station WMBO-LP is back, reports a CNYRadio.com and CNYTVNews.com reader who used to run his own local media website. Since the station is transmitting on analog TV channel 6, the audio can be heard with an ordinary radio at 87.7 FM.

SYRACUSE — For those of you who know your Syracuse television history, you might call this a “homecoming” of sorts.  ABC affiliate NewsChannel 9 (WSYR-TV) says weekday morning talk show Bridge Street will broadcast live from ShoppingTown Mall in DeWitt every day “during the holiday season.”

SYRACUSE — There’s a new local broadcast option for local country music lovers: it’s “The Country Network” airing on local Fox affiliate WSYT’s digital subchannel 68.2. WSYT is among a dozen new affiliates nationwide to join the network.

SYRACUSE — Longtime NewsChannel 9 anchor Rod Wood is spending the next three to six weeks at home, after the station says he underwent prostate cancer surgery earlier this week.  But he’ll be back on TV briefly next week, telling his story during a series of reports on prostate cancer.

WASHINGTON — The FCC’s Media Bureau announced a temporary freeze on applications for new digital low-power television (LPTV) stations and TV translators “in so-called ‘rural areas,’” effective immediately. The agency says holding those apps will allow staffers to focus on efforts to make more room for mobile broadband.
